A. Aziz Richi, MD, Vice Chairman, Department of Surgery, specializes in bariatric surgery, general surgery and thoracic surgery at Saint Mary’s Hospital, with an interest in robotic-assisted bariatric procedures.

Dr. Richi earned his medical degree from Damascus University in Syria. He completed his internship at Worcester City Hospital, Worcester, Mass., and his surgical residency at Saint Mary’s Hospital. He also completed a residency in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and a cardiothoracic surgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he was Chief Resident in Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Dr. Richi is board-certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery. He is Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery and Associate Chief of Staff at Saint Mary’s. A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians, and the American College of Chest Physicians, Dr. Richi previously served as Interim Chairman of the Department of Surgery, as Section Chief of General Surgery, and as Surgical Director of the Intensive Care Unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital. He is in practice with Franklin Medical Group.
